Voyager™ DSLT

Cumberland Eye Care is pleased to offer Voyager™ DSLT (Direct Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty), an advanced, no-contact laser treatment for glaucoma. Dr. DeNaro provides this treatment for patients in Crossville and throughout the Upper Cumberland, adding another way to protect your vision for years to come.

What is Voyager DSLT?

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight.” It usually causes no pain or early warning signs while rising eye pressure slowly harms the optic nerve. Any vision lost to glaucoma is permanent, which is why steady, long-term pressure control matters so much.

Traditionally, glaucoma treatment has begun with medicated eye drops. Lasers and surgery were reserved for when drops weren’t enough. Daily drops can be hard to keep up with, though, and missed doses mean less protection for your eyes.

Voyager DSLT changes that order. This laser treatment lowers eye pressure by helping your eye drain fluid more effectively, and you can try it early rather than save it for later.

How Does Voyager DSLT Work?

Inside your eye, fluid is always being produced and drained away. When the eye’s drainage channels don’t work as well as they should, fluid backs up, and eye pressure climbs, putting your optic nerve at risk.

During treatment, the Voyager DSLT system automatically applies 120 carefully measured laser pulses to the drainage tissue. This gentle energy activates your body’s natural healing process, opening fluid flow and lowering pressure.

Older laser procedures require the doctor to place a special lens on the surface of your eye to see and aim at the drainage area. Voyager DSLT skips that step. The laser reaches the drainage system directly through the edge of the cornea, the eye’s clear front surface, with nothing touching your eye. The result is a simpler, faster, and more comfortable experience.

Because the treatment improves your eye’s ability to drain fluid, many patients can rely less on medication while keeping their eye pressure in a healthy range.

Is Voyager DSLT Right for Me?

If you’ve been diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma or have elevated eye pressure, Voyager DSLT may be worth discussing with your doctor. It can be an especially good option for patients who:

  • Prefer to start treatment with something other than daily eye drops
  • Experience redness, irritation, or other side effects from their drops
  • Find it hard to remember, afford, or physically apply drops every day
  • Want to reduce the number of glaucoma medications they use

Voyager DSLT treats open-angle glaucoma specifically, so it may not be right for every patient. Some people may still need medication after treatment, and routine follow-up visits will remain part of your care.

During your consultation at Cumberland Eye Care, Dr. DeNaro will carefully evaluate your eyes and look at your eye pressure, current medications, and overall eye health. She will also discuss what matters most to you. From there, she’ll help you decide whether Voyager DSLT is the right next step.

Take the Next Step in Your Glaucoma Care

You don’t have to let glaucoma treatment revolve around a daily schedule of drops. Voyager DSLT offers a modern, patient-friendly way to keep your eye pressure in check and protect your sight.

For over twenty years, Cumberland Eye Care has cared for families in the Upper Cumberland community. Dr. DeNaro brings that same personal attention to every glaucoma patient, creating a treatment plan built around your eyes and your lifestyle.
